Welcoming dental clinic environment for new patients

What Makes Us Different

Starting dental care at our clinic isn't like a typical dental visit. From your very first phone call, you'll notice the difference. Our team specializes in helping anxious patients, those with past dental trauma, and individuals with medical conditions that make traditional dentistry challenging. We take extra time to listen, explain everything clearly, and customize our approach to your unique needs.

Unlike conventional practices that offer sedation as an occasional service, we've built our entire clinic around it. With two dedicated general anesthesia suites, board-certified medical anesthesiologists on staff (Dr. Hesham Talab, MD MSc PhD FRCPC FASE and Dr. Asad Mirghassemi, MD MSc FRCPC), and over 25 years of sedation dentistry experience, we provide hospital-grade safety in a private practice setting.

No judgment. No pressure. Just compassionate care designed around your comfort.

Making Your First Visit Stress-Free

We know that even calling to book an appointment can trigger anxiety. That's why our administrative team receives specialized training in speaking with nervous patients. When you contact us, you'll immediately feel the difference—no rushed conversations, no pressure, just genuine understanding and support.

Our Sedation Options

Whether you need gentle relaxation or complete sleep, we offer the full spectrum of comfort options:

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Mild relaxation for cooperative patients with minimal anxiety. Effects wear off within minutes so you can drive yourself home.

Oral Sedation

Medication taken before your appointment creates drowsiness and reduces anxiety. Great for moderately nervous patients who prefer not to drive.

IV Sedation

Deeper sedation with reduced awareness and memory of treatment. Ideal for high anxiety or longer procedures.

General Anesthesia

Complete sleep with zero awareness, administered by board-certified medical anesthesiologists. Best for severe anxiety, complex surgery, or patients who want absolutely no memory of treatment.

Multiple Procedures in One Visit

With appropriate sedation—especially IV sedation or general anesthesia—we can complete months or even years of needed dental work in a single appointment. This means fewer visits, one recovery period, and less overall stress for you and your family.

Your First Appointment: Step by Step

Before You Arrive

After booking your appointment, we'll send you new patient forms to complete at home. These include your medical history, dental concerns, anxiety level, and insurance information. Completing them in advance saves time and reduces stress on appointment day.

If you're considering sedation, we'll discuss options during your phone consultation. For general anesthesia or IV sedation, we will schedule a separate pre-operative assessment first.

Arrival and Check-In

Our clinic is located at 551 Montréal Rd Unit C, Ottawa—easy to find with free parking directly outside and wheelchair accessibility throughout. When you arrive, our reception team will greet you warmly and help you settle in. Our waiting area is designed to be calming, not clinical.

We run on time. You won't spend 30-45 minutes anxiously waiting—we respect your schedule and emotions.

Meeting Your Dental Team

Dr. Koniouchine personally meets every new patient. He'll take time to understand your dental history, current concerns, anxiety triggers, and treatment goals. This isn't rushed—we typically schedule 60-90 minutes for comprehensive new patient exams.

Comprehensive Examination

Your first visit includes:

  • Complete oral examination
  • Digital X-rays (low radiation, processed instantly)
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Gum health assessment
  • Discussion of any problem areas
  • Photos if needed for treatment planning

If you're too anxious for a full exam on day one, that's okay. We can start with just a conversation, tour of the facility, and meeting the team. The examination can happen at a second visit—possibly under mild sedation if that helps.

Treatment Planning Discussion

After your examination, Dr. Koniouchine will explain his findings in clear, non-technical language. You'll receive:

  • Written treatment plan with all recommended procedures
  • Detailed cost estimates with no hidden fees
  • Sedation options and associated costs
  • Timeline and appointment scheduling options
  • Insurance coverage verification
  • Alternative treatment options when applicable

We never pressure you into treatment. If something can wait, we'll tell you. If a tooth can be saved conservatively, that's always our first recommendation. Our goal is earning your trust through honesty, not creating fear to drive sales.

Time Required: Plan for 60-90 minutes for your first comprehensive visit.

How to Prepare for Your First Visit

What to Bring

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Insurance cards (if applicable)
  • Completed new patient forms
  • List of current medications and medical conditions
  • Previous dental X-rays if available (we can request them)
  • Questions you want answered

If You're Nervous

  • Communicate your anxiety. Tell us during booking and remind us when you arrive. We adjust our approach accordingly.
  • Bring a support person. Family members or friends are welcome to accompany you, even into the treatment room if that helps.
  • Ask about mild sedation. Even for the first exam, we can offer nitrous oxide or oral sedation to help you relax.
  • Plan extra time. Don't schedule anything immediately after your appointment—give yourself space to decompress.

For Sedation Appointments

If you're scheduled for treatment under IV sedation or general anesthesia:

  • Arrange transportation. You cannot drive yourself home. A responsible adult must accompany you.
  • Follow fasting instructions. Typically nothing to eat or drink for 6-8 hours before anesthesia (we'll provide specific guidelines).
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Avoid jewelry, contact lenses, and heavy makeup.
  • Review medications. Some may need adjustment before sedation—we'll discuss this during your pre-operative assessment.

Have questions? We'd love to hear from you.
